Maritime Paper Products and Norampac Cascades conclude Atlantic Canada Joint Venture Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Maritime Paper Products Limited and Norampac, a division of Cascades Canada ULC have received clearance from the Competition Bureau of Canada and completed legal due diligence to form a new joint venture operation for corrugated packaging operations in Atlantic Canada. Effective January 31, 2014, the assets of Maritime Paper along with Norampac’s Moncton, New Brunswick and St. John’s, Newfoundland operations have been brought together to form the new entity, which will be known as Maritime Paper Products Limited Partnership. Maritime Paper Products is the majority owner and managing partner. Maritime Paper’s main manufacturing facility in Dartmouth will also serve as the corporate head office.
“We’re very pleased to complete this important transaction,” says Gary Johnson, President, “The newly combined resources will enable us to provide customers of both organizations a long term supply of quality corrugated packaging at a competitive price.”
In the coming days, Maritime Paper’s management team is meeting with employees at all plants to ensure an orderly transition, seek input from team members and customers and confirm plans to deliver products efficiently and competitively.
“In the longer term, we intend to find growth opportunities so that we can make continued investment in the region – in modern, efficient operations, and in research and product development and improvements,” said Johnson.
Maritime Paper was founded in 1931 to service corrugated packaging needs of manufacturers and shippers in Atlantic Canada. The company has since expanded both its product lines and facilities to manufacture quality corrugated cartons and custom packaging to customers throughout North America, the Caribbean and Europe. Its manufacturing facilities are located in Dartmouth, NS and St. John’s, NL; its distribution facilities are in Saint John, NB and Summerside, PEI.
Maritime Paper Products employs 160 people in Atlantic Canada and is part of the Scotia Investments Limited group of companies.
